The Story of Château Robert I've always been very interested in history and historical buildings, especially castles. To be able to walk through the same rooms, and experience the same surroundings as people did hundreds of years ago, not to mention imagining how it was to live here, to me it's inspiring. In 2016 I came up with the idea of buying and restoring my own castle. After a little over two years of searching, I came across Château Robert. The castle has a long family history - the noble family Castelnau Tursan inhabited the estate for almost 1000 years, from 950 to 1903, when the last Marchioness died. (The title "Marchioness" is the feminine version of "Marquess", below a duke and above an earl, and in France refers to a ruler of border or frontier territories.) Since 1903 there have been several different owners, however the esteem, respect and responsibility required to care of the Château have not always been apparent. I was motivated by a great respect for history, and the Castelnau Tursan family, to take on the task of restoring Château Robert to its original grandeur. This endeavour is not only important for the estate and its history, but also for the village of Montgaillard, for whom the castle is a cherished monument. When I took ownership of Château Robert in 2018 the structure and garden were visibly neglected. The past years have been spent replacing the roof, renovating the entire facade, restoring windows and doors, and refinishing all the floors. I have kept and restored all that could be saved to ensure the continuity of as much historical value as possible. There remains one room that has not been renovated, a room that has been locked for the past 200 years when the entrance was sealed off from the inside. The room has been completely destroyed by the ravages of time, but is a project I am looking forward to taking on next. When it is finished, its completion will symbolize the true renaissance of Château Robert, restored in its entirety to the magestic estate it was 250 years ago when it was at its best. I truly hope you will enjoy your stay at Château Robert. I welcome you to experience the history and elegance this unique castle has to offer. – Christian Madsen, owner of Château Robert
